Frequently Asked Questions

Our team of therapists in Hamilton are ready to help you take the next step in personal development.
How long are your sessions and how often do you recommend attending therapy?

Our standard session length is 50 minutes long. We also offer 80 and 110 minute long sessions on request and discussion with your therapist. As a baseline, meeting weekly is helpful, to build momentum with your therapy process. Many clients meet less frequently once they feel they have some skills and tools they can apply in their lives, many clients continue regularly longer term if needed and beneficial. The frequency and length of treatment is an important issue to discuss with your therapist, and your budget and schedule are important factors to weigh in to the decision in addition to evidence based recommendations that we can make.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Don’t hesitate to set up a free consult call with one of our therapists, to explore whether it feels like the right fit for you. Bring any questions that you have, and the therapist can tell you more about how they work, and make a different referral if necessary.

I have a friend or family member who is struggling. Can I call and book a session for them?

We are happy to share information with you about our services, if you would like to pass this on to your loved one. To book an appointment, we do need to discuss with the potential client first.

Fees and Coverage

How much does each therapy session cost and do you accept insurance?

The fee for our standard individual 50 minute therapy session is $145 (no additional tax). Most extended health insurance plans provide coverage for sessions with Registered Social Workers, and many with Registered Psychotherapists (Qualifying) also. For fees not covered by an insurance plan, they can be claimed as a health expense on your tax return. You can also explore whether our affordable, sliding scale therapy sessions with our psychotherapy intern are a good fit for you. We also offer sessions funded through NIHB (Non Insured Health Benefits) for individuals with First Nations status.

Can my therapy sessions be covered through federal funding?

Federal Funding is available for First Nations, Refugee Claimants, Canadian Armed Forces personnel and Veterans. Reach out to find out how the cost of your sessions can be covered.

Do you offer direct billing?

Our Registered Social Workers are happy to offer direct billing with most major insurance companies.
